Brief BIO of my time in the Marine Corps

Apr 53 - Signal School Bn.,A Co, 4th Recruit Trng Bn., Marines Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, California (16 weeks). Was Transferred FMF Pacific troops, Camp Pendleton Sep 53. Transferred again to 1st Radio Company, FMF (J.Vanderdoof-Co), Oct 53.

1st Radio CO. relocated to Fortrps, FMFLant, Camp LeJeune, NC (Camp Geiger) Apr 54. Transferred to NSA, Ft Geo. G. Meade, MD, Jul 56.

Transferred to 1st Radio Co, FMF, Oahu, TH (Capt Alfred Gray was Ops Officer and Henry A. Von der Heyde, Jr was CO). TAD to Kadena, Okinawa Oct 59. TAD to Taipei (Sub Unit two) Mar 60.  TAD to NSA, Ft Meade, MD, may 60.  TAD to NavSecGrp, Futema, Okinawa, Sep 60.  TAD to San Miguel, Philippines Aug 61.  TAD to NAVSECGRP, Futema, Okinawa Jul 62.

Oct 62 transferred to Company "D", MARSPTBN, Okinawa.  TAD to Japan Jul 63.  TAD aboard USS Francis Marion (APA-249) and USS El Dorado (AGC-7).

Transferred to 2nd Radio Bn., Camp Lejeune, NC.  TAD to NSA, Ft Geo. G. Meade Md. Jul 65.  TAD to Athens, Greece for duty with 6931 Sec GRP, Iraq Lion Air Sta, Crete Sep 65.  TAD aboard Lorain County, LST-117 (Spain) Aug 66.  TAD to NSA Ft Geo G. Meade, MD Sep 66.  TAD to 4th USASA Field Sta., Asmara, Ethiopia Nov 66. 

Transferred to Sub Unit #1, 1stRadBn, FMF, Danang, Vietnam (Quisenberry was CO) Nov 67.  Jan 68 Danang to DongHa as courier for 11MAF.  R&R to Hawaii with wife in Jul 68.  Danang to Pleiku as courier Aug 68.  Became Plt. Sgt 4th platoon, Vandergrif Combat Base  Oct 68.  Vandergrif Combat base to Danang as courier Dec 68.  Jan-Jul 69 Courier between Danang, DongHa, and Quantri.

Transferred to 2nd SSCT, Camp Pendleton, California Mar 72. 

Retired from USMC as M/Sgt. 2578 June 1973.

Went to work for United Telephone Co. of Florida in 1973.  Was warehouseman, lineman, warehouse Supervisor and the last ten years before retiring, Building and Grounds Supervisor in Avon Park, Fla. Company changed from United Telephone to Sprint Embarq and now Century Link. 

Moved to North Carolina in 2002.

Have 3 daughters and 2 sons.  Oldest son, Gregory retires March 2010 from USMC.  Served 32 years- rank MSGYT.  Wife and I will attend his ceremonies at Camp Pendleton on that date....Same area that I retired from.
